Back when I was in college, I studied at the Unviersity of North Carolina (Go Tar Heels!) for 4 years. And I spent every waking moment that I wasn’t studying, in class, or chasing girls at the Dean E. Smith Center shooting hoops with my buddy Michael. He was just an absolute animal draining 3-pointer left and right…but he was also a white guy with a 6inch vertical, so let’s be honest – he wasn’t making the basketball team. Anyways, Mike and I joined a roofing company when we left school. Mike’s dad lived in the Queen City Quarter just west of E Trade Street in a highrise condo, and he had built a roofing company from a one-man show to a crew of 17 skilled guys. And while we were in school, his roofing contractors were installing and repairing everything from residential asphalt singles to galvanized steel commercial roofing systems for huge companies like Duke Energy and Nucor. When we left school, Mike’s dad retired and left him the company, so of course Mike and I jumped in. Shockingly to me, he gave me 50% of it to run the business with him as the co-owner, situated right on Charlotte Rte 4. Earlier this year, Mike and I talked about it and decided it was time to sell. We were looking for business brokers for a few weeks, talking to everyone we could find and no one felt quite right until we met Terry Walsh. Locally, Terry is known as The Charlotte NC Business Broker, and he sold our business within 4 months. But, I just wanted to give Terry a shout out because I’ve been working 100% remote since I moved from Charlotte, SC to Miami, FL, and it’s been tough to have the roofing company in the background. As much as I love North Carolina, I just needed to create a clean break, and it was time to move on. Mike wanted to try new things, so he started a golf simulator company; that was cool.
